Skiing on the Pite River

Svempa and Anne went on a tour at the Pite River (Piteälven). They had best spring winter weather!

The Pite River (Piteälven) is partly open and partly frozen at this time of the year.
But how do you know when it's safe to ski on the river? Well, we look out for either moose, reindeer or snowmobile tracks. If the ice carries them, it will carry us!

Check out the video, too!

Snow-clearing our roof

We still get fresh snow and as it becomes milder the snow gets heavier and doesn't necessarily fall off the roof. This means heavy, packed snow on our roof (the shed in this case).

We decided to no longer stress our roof to avoid a possible collapse.

We have a snowmobile!

After four winters we proudly present: OUR OWN SKOTER! (snowmobile)
Driving on snowmobile trails or crusted snow is no problem...

An Arctic Cat Prowler mc 1992

We've had our first fun driving it off the trails over deep powder snow... and eventually got stuck (video available!;). What did we learn from that lesson? Never ever step off the gas! The minute you slow down or even stop you are lost. Anyhow, our snowmobile has a narrow track so we should probably stick to the marked trails when snow conditions become too tricky. Meaning 50cm of loose powder snow is just too much for us to bare!...or for the snowmobile? ;-)

Icy roads and snow dunes

In the beginning of March we still get pretty harsh weather conditions.

This is the E45 in the beginning of March. Normal road conditions in Lapland during winter time.

It's been a windy night from Janne@LapplandTimes on Vimeo.
