Bicycle Tours

This summer I did three tours by bike with a friend of mine. They were all about the same length and all of them in the municipality of Arvidsjaur.

The first tour was around Piteälv with probably most ups and downs on the way. It felt like the most difficult to ride but it was probably also due to the fact that we were slightly better trained with every tour we made. 😊

The second tour was 45km bike tour plus a short walk of about 15min to a beautiful well called Grodkällan in the middle of a swamp.

The third tour was 47km around a lake called Malmesjaure. It was mainly gravel road this time although we rode quite a bit of gravel road during the other occasions as well. It was the longest tour but it didn't feel more difficult as we had less hills to climb and we were better trained with each tour, I guess.

Looking forward to our next tour!

Camping Trip to Norway

In mid July we did a few days camping trip to Norway. We drove route 95 from Arvidsjaur via Arjeplog and crossed the border to Norway along Junkerdalen, a beautiful valley just across the border and then followed the E6 to Fauske. We stopped there to do a little bit of sightseeing and fishing.

We then continued along the E6 heading north and enjoyed the beautiful landscape...

...went swimming in a crystal clear lake...

...went swimming in the sea...

... did some fishing...

... made a fish soup...

... enjoyed the gorgeous views again and again...

... and caught a nice cod at the end of our trip!

We'll be back Norway! Thank you! 😊😊😊

Hot & Cold Summer Days

We've had some hot summer weather at the Arctic Circle in mid/end of July. For about two weeks we went swimming every day. That was wonderful! The kids enjoyed that very much, too.

The weather has been crazy the past weeks. From mid June to mid July it was unusual cold and dry weather. Not good for our garden! Then suddenly from one day to the other it became very hot with temperatures above 30 degrees Celsius. That lasted about 10 days or so. Then it became cold again from one day to the other with temps below 10 degrees Celsius. What's going on? Climate change are the well known words used nowadays...

The past week has been more steady with temperatures ranging between 16 to 22 degrees Celsius. That's more like it. We'll see as it continues and hopefully more rain will come along as well as it's been very dry the past weeks in many places in Sweden and even other parts of Europe.

Steam Train from Arvidsjaur to Slagnäs

A few days ago we went on a special trip with a steam train (ångtåg) from Arvidsjaur to Slagnäs and back to Arvidsjaur. On our way the train had to stop a couple of times due to reindeers on the track.

Half way in Slagnäs we had the chance to see the locomotive change from one end of the train to the other in order to go back to Arvidsjaur. The locomotive was then open for view inside.

The train then went back to Arvidsjaur and stopped at the lake Storavan at a beautiful beach.

The crew had already started a fire to grill some sausages at a fire place. Some people went for a swim as well.

After about one hour break the train went on to head back to Arvidsjaur where we arrived after a five hour trip.

The train was quite full with mostly Swedes but some tourists as well. During the trip the speaker informed passengers a bit about the history of the train, some figures and the voluntary work of the crew. All in all it was a fabulous trip for as little money as 250 SEK for adults. Kids go for free. There were a lot of families with children on the train which was a bit surprising considering the trip went from 5:45pm to 10:45pm. But it's not unusual that kids in Sweden stay awake late during summer with light all night.

Heading North

Not sure if it makes any sense to continue this blog. But I take it as an important step to continue our story of Lapland as we thought for a while it had come to an end. But actually it was just put on hold.

Crossing the Baltic Sea with a ferry to Sweden

Our first camp night this year

Jam, jam!

A very cool playground at a church!

Refreshing dip in Vänern

Our first campfire this year

She just loves it! Nature child.

First Try

Amazing. This passion and interest from the very beginning. We are formed by the landscape that surrounds us.

Any catch?
