Steam Train from Arvidsjaur to Slagnäs

A few days ago we went on a special trip with a steam train (ångtåg) from Arvidsjaur to Slagnäs and back to Arvidsjaur. On our way the train had to stop a couple of times due to reindeers on the track.

Half way in Slagnäs we had the chance to see the locomotive change from one end of the train to the other in order to go back to Arvidsjaur. The locomotive was then open for view inside.

The train then went back to Arvidsjaur and stopped at the lake Storavan at a beautiful beach.

The crew had already started a fire to grill some sausages at a fire place. Some people went for a swim as well.

After about one hour break the train went on to head back to Arvidsjaur where we arrived after a five hour trip.

The train was quite full with mostly Swedes but some tourists as well. During the trip the speaker informed passengers a bit about the history of the train, some figures and the voluntary work of the crew. All in all it was a fabulous trip for as little money as 250 SEK for adults. Kids go for free. There were a lot of families with children on the train which was a bit surprising considering the trip went from 5:45pm to 10:45pm. But it's not unusual that kids in Sweden stay awake late during summer with light all night.
