Kalmar Slott

Before we came to Kalmar we didn't even know there was a castle. We were just curious to see the town by the Baltic Sea and when we saw the sign Kalmar Slott (Kalmar Castle) we decided to go there and have a look. It was definetely worth it!

The Kalmar Castle is one of Sweden's best preserved renaissance castles and open to the public. (unfortunately we weren't able to see the inside though as it was closed)

Bridge to the castle

Guns on the outer paparet

The best part is walking on the grass wall and enjoy the views

Ronneby Brunnspark

Yesterday, we enjoyed a walk in the spa gardens of Ronneby Brunnspark. A beautiful spot designated as Sweden's most beautiful park in 2005. You may see for yourself...

Kronobergs Slottsruin

Finally, we found spring! In Småland. Temperatures around 12°C actually feel warm after being used to temps around zero near Kopparberg. It has been raining a lot the past days but that didn't bother us too much as it felt like summer rain to us. We also did some sightseeing in Växjö.

Naturreservat Högbergsfältet

From Monday to Tuesday night we stayed at a nature reserve near Filipstad. An interesting trail is going through it showing the history of this place where they used to do ore mining in the 18th and 19th century. You can still see the remains of stone walls, mines (the deepest hole over 200m) and a manhole.

Snow 7th of May???

Woke up this morning and saw snow?! We drove 1000km south to have snow again?! I think I'm going crazy! I wanted spring not winter!

Camping site near Kopparberg in Klacken

Yesterday, we visited Kopparberg. Probably most famous because of it's brewery. We wanted to see the wooden church (Ljusnarsbergs kyrka) but unfortunately it doesn't open until mid May.

We decided to head further south in search for spring...

Wooden Church in Ekshärad

There is also a second hand shop in Ekshärad with very friendly people. We found some neat shoes for Finnja.

Hiking in Glaskogens Naturreservat

Cold polar air is still blowing over Värmland with temps around zero during nights and around 10°C during daytime. Mighty fine temperatures for hiking actually but not for bathing as tested yesterday! Sorry, no pics available.. hehe! :o) However, I do have some photos from our hike through the woods.
